Banca March wins Competitiveness Award from the Spanish Maritime Cluster

  • The accolade recognises Banca March's business background, its close ties with the marine world and its culture of prudence and commitment to customers
  • Originally founded in the Balearic Islands, Banca March's clear commitment to the sea has been demonstrated through a range of initiatives throughout its history
  • The latest, most noteworthy of these initiatives was the recent launch of the Mediterranean Fund, the new themed fund by the bank's asset manager March Asset Management, which channels part of the returns generated into the conservation of marine ecosystems whilst affording its investors global diversification

Banca March has won the Spanish Maritime Cluster's Competitiveness Award.

This accolade recognises the bank's business background and its close ties with the marine world. The bank's prudence-driven business model is underpinned by a long-term approach and a philosophy of shared growth with customers, employees, shareholders and society as a whole. As a bank which was founded in the Balearic Islands, Banca March's close ties with the maritime sector have been evidenced by a range of milestones throughout its history, including the incorporation of Transmediterránea, Spain's first shipping company.

The most recent such milestone was the launch by March Asset Management, Banca March's asset manager, of its new themed fund, Mediterranean Fund, which can invest in a universe of over 8,000 companies that are linked to the oceans economy and operate in the consumer, energy, industry, health and utilities sectors, among others.

It is also important to highlight that this product allocates 10% of management fees to projects for the recovery and conservation of marine ecosystems.

The Spanish Maritime Cluster Awards ceremony is attended by key sector authorities, as well as top-level representatives of the organisations that form part of the Cluster, and recognise companies that undertake initiatives in a range of areas and sub-sectors related to the Spanish maritime world.

The Spanish Maritime Cluster comprises over 3,000 organisations that strive to maintain and reinforce the leadership, growth, competitiveness and sustainability of maritime activity in Europe.

José Manuel Arcenegui, Managing Director of the Corporate Banking Area at Banca March, said: “We are deeply proud to have received this award, which recognises our business model and our close ties to the sea. We are firm advocates for prudent, sustainable growth and that is only possible with a robust commitment to maritime activity; this belief is woven inextricably into the DNA of every shareholder and professional at Banca March.”
