Banca March converts its Luxembourg branch into a subsidiary

03 March 2026 Category: Grupo Banca March

  • Banca March will transform its Luxembourg branch into a subsidiary, establishing it as the base for the Group’s international expansion.
  • This strategic step is enabled by the technological developments carried out by Banca March’s highly specialised centre in Palma, which will provide clients with an optimal experience by offering a 360° view of their positions and global operational capabilities, regardless of jurisdiction.
  • As the Spanish institution with the highest CET 1 solvency ratio, Banca March strengthens with this milestone its ability to provide specialised wealth management and advisory solutions, including the Group’s renowned Co-investment opportunities.
  • Luxembourg has established itself as the ideal financial centre for private banking, thanks to its legal and financial flexibility for creating and marketing products across the European Union.

Banca March, the first Spanish financial institution to have a presence in Luxembourg since 2012, takes a significant step in its growth and consolidation strategy as a leading provider in private banking and corporate advisory services by converting its branch in the Grand Duchy into a subsidiary. This milestone goes beyond a mere legal status change, reflecting a firm commitment to offering clients international wealth advisory services with a long-term perspective.

This move is supported by substantial investment in cutting-edge technology, developed at the Institution’s highly specialised centre in Palma, which will turn Banca March’s Luxembourg subsidiary into the base for the Group’s international expansion. In practice, the Institution will deliver an optimal client experience, providing a 360° view of financial positions and global operational capabilities regardless of jurisdiction. To achieve state-of-the-art advisory technology, Banca March has accelerated its digital transformation in recent years: between 2020 and 2024, total spending and investment reached €246 million, and in 2025 it rose to €107 million, 27% higher than the previous year, aimed at meeting technological challenges in the sector and new cybersecurity demands. The 2025 figure represented 20% of the Institution’s gross margin, well above the sector average (7%, according to Accenture data).

Luxembourg, base for international expansion

With this transformation, Luxembourg will become the base for Banca March’s expansion into new markets. The move from branch to subsidiary gives the Institution its own legal personality and an EU passport, significantly enhancing its international distribution capacity. This will allow Banca March to market its investment products, including its Co-investment solutions, in a more efficient and streamlined fashion across the European Union.

The choice of Luxembourg reflects its consolidation as the ideal financial centre for private banking. Its economic and regulatory framework, recognised for its flexibility, efficiency, and a wide range of investment alternatives, positions it as a hub for asset management in Europe. The Grand Duchy’s financial and legal stability, supported by a AAA credit rating, provides an optimal environment for the creation and development of wealth advisory structures, enabling Banca March to offer clear advantages in geographical, asset, and regulatory diversification.

José Manuel Arcenegui, CEO of Banca March and head of the bank’s international expansion, stated: “For Banca March, an Institution specialised in wealth management and corporate advisory with a unique business model centred on prudence and the long term, strengthening our presence in Luxembourg is a natural and strategic step. Luxembourg provides a regulatory and financial environment that encourages innovation in technology, products, and services, offering greater flexibility for clients. This milestone reinforces our strategic conviction that Banca March’s value proposition is fully exportable and globally competitive. Luxembourg expands our international distribution capacity, allowing us to deliver our products and services, including our renowned Co-investment solutions, more efficiently across the European Union under the UCITS framework. The subsidiary will be a cornerstone for wealth planning, diversification, and access to global investment opportunities”.
