Banca March and the Real Club Náutico de Palma have renewed their cooperation agreement under which the bank, which was founded in the Balearic Islands, will continue to be the official bank of the 39th Copa del Rey MAPFRE. Organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the regatta is set to take place from 31 July to 7 August in the Bay of Palma.
Ángel Martínez, Managing Director of Retail and Private Banking at Banca March, said: "Banca March is utterly committed to the inhabitants, the culture, and of course the economic and social recovery of the Balearic Islands. It is fantastic news for everyone involved that this 39th edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, which is such a hugely important event for the region, is able to go ahead.
We had to postpone a number of projects in 2020; now, with responsibility and caution, is the time to reactivate the economy. Just like the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, Banca March, which was founded in Mallorca almost a hundred years ago, aspires to excellence. Since 1926, we have been a Spanish market leader in asset management and corporate advisory services, boasting sector-leading solvency levels and offering a clear focus on family businesses. Despite the various crises weathered over the years, we continue to be a family bank which is deeply connected to its roots.”
As a reflection of its commitment to Mallorca's economic and social recovery, Banca March was one of the key sponsors of the first ever ATP Mallorca Championships, an ATP 250 tournament held from 19 to 26 June at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça.
At the official launch of the competition on 16 June, the Chairman of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, Emerico Fuster, said: “The Copa del Rey MAPFRE is an important date in the sporting calendar and one of the biggest social events in Palma, in Mallorca and in the Mediterranean, which is why it was so important to us to be here today after such a tough year. The fact that this event is able to go ahead is a sign that we are gradually returning to our normal way of life.”
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Copa del Rey MAPFRE organising committee decided in 2020 to postpone the 39th edition of the event until the public health situation was mitigated sufficiently to allow the competition to go ahead safely. The Copa del Rey MAPFRE is back stronger than ever in 2021, and is fully compliant with the regulatory health measures required by the authorities.
