Anselmo Martín-Peñasco, deputy general manager of Banca March and head of the Human Resources area, had the following to say during the award ceremony for the seal of recognition: "Banca March's people management model puts professionals at the centre of the strategy. Banca Marchis now part of the responsible institutional fabric of our country and has become the first financial institution to receive this accreditation.

The “espacio cerebroprotegido” certification project consisted of training 100% of the bank's staff to identify, stabilise and act in the event of a possible stroke, with a twofold objective: reduce the time it takes to save lives and prevent sequelae and to know how to stabilise the affected person so that the Stroke Code protocol can be activated as soon as possible by the emergency services.

Following this training, all Banca March's business centres and central services have staff trained to identify a possible case of stroke and to act quickly, thus becoming the first link in the chain of survival in the face of the disease.

In this regard, The chairman of the Fundación Freno al Ictus, Julio Agredano, reminded us that "stroke is a time-dependent disease, so reducing the time it takes to act is vital to minimise its after-effects. Today, thanks to Banca March and its commitment to the multiplier effect against stroke, one and a half thousand more people can raise the alarm to beat the clock and save lives among their employees and customers. We should remember that according to data from the Spanish Society of Neurology, more than 50% of those affected by a stroke have disabling sequelae or die, and 35% of cases occur at working age, causing a mortality rate 5 times higher than that of breast cancer. The primary objective of this certification is to save lives and to prevent sequelae".

Stroke is a disturbance in cerebral circulation that compromises blood flow to the brain, resulting in neuronal damage. The data is staggering: it is estimated that one in six people will have a stroke in their lifetime. It is currently the leading cause of acquired disability in adults and represents the second cause of mortality, being the first in the case of women, and every year it affects around 120,000 people in Spain, causing death or serious disability in a high percentage of cases.

For this reason, swift action and appropriate training are essential. Only then will employees be able to identify the warning signs of this disease, signs that often go unnoticed in many cases due to a lack of knowledge among the population.
